Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers (KVM) has stepped up the assembly of Hyundai light trucks for CICA Motors, the distributor for Kenya. To meet the demand for three and five-tonne trucks and 29 and 33-seater buses, KVM will complete a batch of 120 more Hyundai units before year-end for CICA Motors, a subsidiary of DT Dobie. The assembly of Hyundai light trucks by KVM commenced early in 2012 after an intensive training programme, followed by checks and tests by KVM quality controllers and trainers from Korea. Technical audit teams from Hyundai Motor Company visit Kenya periodically to carry out inspections of the locally-built trucks.
Sarfraz Premji, the General Manager of CICA Motors, said, “We are seeing rising demand from a wide range of truck users including bakeries, builders, manufacturing companies and transporters. The 29 and 33 seater buses are becoming increasingly popular with both Saccos and organisations requiring staff transport.
